HEALTHCARE
NURSING
PUBLIC SAFETY
One of Belgium’s largest non-profit healthcare organizations focuses on professional home nursing. As a mission-driven, publicly funded body, their nurses are fully committed to patients’ (and their families’) needs for care. To that point, nurses will typically bring tablets to their patients’ home to be able to access their data and make home diagnoses. This is done through employee smart cards that link the organization’s own software, and this action is repeated several times in all shifts per day, underscoring the important and tireless work these frontliners do.
Given the high frequency of use, the nurses need an easier access mechanism for their smart card reader. In an ideal scenario, the tablet would not even have a door for the card, since they would keep it open most of the time anyway as the easiest alternative solution. This real-world user practice results in a device with a broken door, meaning the tablet ends up more exposed to water or dust, and eventually impacting its longevity and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
Designed with infection prevention in mind, the ZX10-IP features rubber buttons that allow for frequent cleaning to support the infection control efforts of healthcare professionals. It was even further customized with a new design for the smart card reader that no longer requires an open or close motion, but has more of an ejection stroke to retrieve the card for quick access. This makes it much more straightforward for the end-user (the nurses) to access the data they need. The ZX10 model, unlike other consumer-grade home diagnosis tablets, also comes in a compact, lightweight Android base that is perfect for home nursing visits.
In a “patient first” vocation, like home nursing, it is important that more time is focused on the care than on the usage and specification of the tools or tech. In this scenario, devices are meant to support nurses in their essential tasks and not pose any hindrance to the work. Like the new smart card design for the ZX10, Getac is centered on customizations that can make repetitive or onerous tasks easier, simpler, and more efficient. This lets key personnel put the core, human-centric work first.
