Public safety officers who are on duty routinely use devices within their motor units, whether that’s a car, truck, boat or motorcycle. Tasked with the important role of ensuring people’s wellbeing and safety, it is imperative that this technology works seamlessly so officers can fully focus on their responsibilities. Whether it’s running dispatch or reporting applications, the devices used by law enforcement officers should allow quick access to the applications needed at a moment’s notice.
Due to the nature of law enforcement, officers need devices that are secure from a digital identity standpoint, meaning login could be quick and seamless while still keeping data protected. A solution that could work with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) or Fingerprint Reader (FPR) was ideal, yet no manufacturer offered those functionalities in a single chassis, making the officers’ preference of a secure yet simple login impossible to achieve.
Getac’s customization of the B360 rugged tablet combined the officers’ preferred methods of device access into one—from user password, to RFID card, to Fingerprint Reader (FPR). This integrated solution made login and device usage seamless for public safety officers on duty. The B360 was fitted with a Windows Hello webcam, Crossmatch FPR and LF/HF RFID in a single unit, meaning this device met Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS), ensuring secure use while achieving the end-users ideal experience.
Having multiple Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) options allowed all the end users—in this case, the officers, to use their preferred login option. This customization was able to take an inefficient, time-intensive process and turn it into a simpler, more seamless action without sacrificing data security. Even a seemingly simple adjustment to a device used day-to-day impacts overall efficiency and productivity for law enforcement on-duty.
