Driving Sustainable Progress through Ecosystem Collaboration
STREAMLINED SOIL MONITORING HELPS KUWAIT Address Gulf War-Era Pollution
Getac is proud to partner with Ziltek, an Australian-based specialist in soil measurement technology, in an initiative aimed at restoring soil quality in Kuwait post-Gulf War. Despite the conflict ending over a quarter-century ago, its repercussions are profound, leaving large swathes of Kuwait heavily contaminated.
The RemScan technology, developed by Ziltek, is crucial to the Kuwait Environmental Remediation Program (KERP), spearheaded by the Kuwait Oil Company. This initiative is a leading example of sustainable environmental recovery efforts. Featuring a field-portable device that quickly measures soil oil content, powered by the Getac T800 fully rugged tablet, 17 RemScan units are actively employed in the project. From site characterization to bioremediation monitoring, RemScan is integral at all stages, providing in-field soil measurements across 148 mi² of contaminated land. This technology greatly enhances operational efficiency, aiding in the remediation of over 34 million yd³ of soil.
The Getac T800 tablet offers a user-friendly interface for data collection, analysis, and reporting, ensuring efficient and effective remediation toward optimal land rejuvenation. It supports targeted remediation strategies, adapted to various soil types and contamination levels. The rugged design of the device ensures continuous operation and minimal downtime in the harsh conditions of Kuwait’s remediation sites, as RemScan delivers real-time measurements for determining the extent of oil and chemical contamination.
This project underscores the significance of technological innovation in environmental restoration and serves as a beacon for sustainable practices worldwide. It overcomes the limitations of cost and time associated with traditional laboratory analysis methods by providing scientists on-site with the data needed for timely, informed decisions about soil treatment. By offering precise, real-time, and cost-effective measurements, RemScan, in collaboration with Getac, plays a pivotal role in addressing Kuwait’s environmental disaster, with wide-reaching implications for the country’s future.
