Challenge
Blueprint Subsea specialises in imaging sonars, acoustic positioning beacons and diver navigation systems for the subsea, defence, and search & rescue sectors. All its solutions are designed in-house and produced using advanced manufacturing techniques to ensure exceptional reliability and performance in the field.
The company’s Artemis Diver Navigation System is tried and trusted by special forces personnel and emergency services professionals all over the world, offering covert navigation, sonar imaging and acoustic communication capabilities in a compact and portable form factor. The system is designed to be extremely robust, so requires a digital control device that can also function at its best in the highly challenging and hostile environments that users often encounter.
“Our Artemis customers need a control device that can be relied on in demanding conditions and climates, ranging from bright sunshine to high humidity, rain, snow, blizzards, and more,” says Rachael Reader, Sales and Marketing, Blueprint Subsea. “The control device is generally used near water, on docksides, boats, and beaches etc, so being water resistant is absolutely vital. It must also be rugged enough to withstand heavy handed use by military personnel.”
Solution
Following an extensive market assessment, Blueprint Subsea identi ed Getac’s V110 notebook as the ideal device for its Artemis interface. As a solution primarily designed for the defence sector, reliability is one of the most important aspects of Artemis and the V110’s fully rugged build quality gives users peace of mind. This includes MIL-STD-810H and IP65-certi cations, a temperature operating range of -29°C to 63°C (-20°F to 145°F) and drop resistance of up to four feet while in use.
The V110 also boasts outstanding connectivity for optimal productivity. 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6 increases connection performance and stability in dense or congested environments, while WLAN Wi-Fi 6 offers up to three times faster wireless data speeds than previous generations. A combination of WLAN, WWAN, Bluetooth, 4G LTE and GPS ensures users can stay connected in even remote environments and advanced inbuilt technology helps lowers power consumption for more extensive field use between charges.
The V110’s unique hinge design also allows users to quickly switch between touchscreen and keyboard based inputs depending on the task at hand, while hot swappable batteries can further extend usage times whenever needed.
Benefits
Since implementation, Blueprint Subsea’s Artemis customers have been greatly impressed with the V110. Many have provided highly positive feedback, particularly about its exceptional reliability.
“The lack of associated issues is what makes the V110 such valuable tool,” says Rachael. “Its ability to withstand extreme environments enables users to carry out operations in high pressure scenarios, which is vital to overall mission success.”
The V110’s powerful connectivity also makes it easy for users to communicate in the field, input mission plans and track divers during operations. Its adaptable form factor has proved popular as well, with users able to switch between input modes for key tasks such as mission planning and debriefing sessions.
“Hostile environments, proximity to water, heavy handed use and accidental drops are all no problem for the V110, which means our customers can get the most out of Artemis time and time again,” adds Rachael. “On top of this, Getac provides us with excellent customer service and the team is always happy to accommodate new projects we bring to them. We look forward to continuing this great technology relationship for many years to come.”
