STREAMLINED SOIL MONITORING HELPS KUWAIT Address Gulf War-Era Pollution

Getac is proud to partner with Ziltek, an Australian-based specialist in soil measurement technology, in an initiative aimed at restoring soil quality in Kuwait post-Gulf War. Despite the conflict ending over a quarter-century ago, its repercussions are profound, leaving large swathes of Kuwait heavily contaminated.
The RemScan technology, developed by Ziltek, is crucial to the Kuwait Environmental Remediation Programme (KERP), spearheaded by the Kuwait Oil Company. This initiative is a leading example of sustainable environmental recovery efforts. Featuring a field-portable device that quickly measures soil oil content, powered by the Getac T800 fully rugged tablet, 17 RemScan units are actively employed in the project. From site characterisation to bioremediation monitoring, RemScan is integral at all stages, providing in-field soil measurements across 384 km² of contaminated land. This technology greatly enhances operational efficiency, aiding in the remediation of over 26 million m³ of soil.
The Getac T800 tablet offers a user-friendly interface for data collection, analysis, and reporting, ensuring efficient and effective remediation toward optimal land rejuvenation. It supports targeted remediation strategies, adapted to various soil types and contamination levels. The rugged design of the device ensures continuous operation and minimal downtime in the harsh conditions of Kuwait’s remediation sites, as RemScan delivers real-time measurements for determining the extent of oil and chemical contamination.
This project underscores the significance of technological innovation in environmental restoration and serves as a beacon for sustainable practises worldwide. It overcomes the limitations of cost and time associated with traditional laboratory analysis methods by providing scientists on-site with the data needed for timely, informed decisions about soil treatment. By offering precise, real-time, and cost-effective measurements, RemScan, in collaboration with Getac, plays a pivotal role in addressing Kuwait’s environmental disaster, with wide-reaching implications for the country’s future.

CO-CREATING ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT AMONG DEMANDING INDUSTRIES

At Getac, our dedication lies in providing products with extended lifespans, ensuring outstanding total cost of ownership (TCO), while prioritising sustainability across all facets of our operations. As environmental concerns take centre stage, businesses are placing greater emphasis on ESG factors. They're actively adopting environmental certifications and making sustainable choices, like incorporating post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials into manufacturing processes. By collaborating with like-minded organisations, we are steadfast in our dedication to pioneering new actions that prioritise sustainability.
To mitigate the impact of e-waste and reduce energy consumption, rugged technology that withstands challenging environmental conditions plays a major role in delivering long-term solutions to the world’s most pressing problems. Join experts from Getac, Greemas, and Sustainability Magazine — leaders in rugged tech, eco-materials, and sustainability trends, to uncover what truly defines rugged technology and how it fits into a sustainable ecosystem. This webinar aims to empower industry professionals with knowledge essential for navigating the evolving landscape of rugged technology and its pivotal role in achieving sustainability objectives.
