Tough Gets Tougher: World’s Most Advanced Android Rugged Tablet Now Atex Certified For Explosive Environments

Getac, designer and manufacturer of rugged computing technology, is launching the world’s first rugged Android 4.1 tablet with explosive protection. The 7” Getac Z710 now comes with ATEX (Explosive Atmosphere) Zone 2/22 certification, meaning it can be used in hazardous and explosive environments.

The rugged tablet is ideal for field workers in the petrochemical, pharmaceutical and oil and gas industries, where ATEX compliance is often mandatory when carrying out inspection, and maintenance work.

Getac UK President, Peter Molyneux says: “We have focused on providing our Android tablet for use in hazardous environments. We have listened to our customers and we are pleased to be first to market with theATEX Zone 2/22 7 inch Android 4.1 tablet – the Getac Z710-Ex. Our customers are now benefiting from using low cost, off the shelf applications reducing implementation time and reducing overall costs of their projects.”

Operating on Android, the Z710-Ex is also the most secure rugged tablet on the market, thanks to its high-security features. The 7-inch capacitive tablet is the ideal device for scenarios where a higher level of information is required to complete the tasks, such as schematics and detailed work instruction. The Z710-Ex is the ideal alternative to smaller handheld devices that have previously been commonplace in such hazardous environments.

Mr Molyneux says: “A number of users are migrating to the larger form factor to increase field capability and performance. This is supported by the device having an extended battery life, allowing field workers to complete a normal shift (8-10 hours) without the need for recharging.”

In addition to the Z710-Ex Getac’s PS336-Ex rugged handheld has also been awarded ATEX Zone 2/22 certification.  With 1GHz of processing power and Getac’s patented Flexiconn™ technology (allowing multiple functionality simply by swapping device caps), it is one of the most powerful handhelds on the market.

“Getac strives to develop innovative solutions that support our customers working in demanding environments,” says Mr Molyneux.  “ATEX accreditation for the Z710 and PS336 presents field users with best-in-class technology that can be used in hazardous environments.”

As well as EU Explosive Atmosphere ATEX Certification the Z710-Ex tablet is MIL-STD 810G and IP65 accredited. The PS336-Ex offers users MIL-STD 810G and IP68 certifications.
